Brent is originally from Intercourse, Pennsylvania. Immediately upon graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Army as an Airborne Ranger Infantryman and progressed through the ranks to Staff Sergeant. During a tour as a Ranger Instructor in the mountains of North Georgia he met and married Barbara. Brent served in the enlisted ranks for 10 years before being selected to attend the Army’s Officer Candidate School. Upon graduation from OCS, SSgt. Hershey was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Ordnance Corps. The following 10 years found LT Hershey serving his country in unique places such as Kosovo and Morocco. His Stateside duty found him in Alaska, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, Colorado and then finally Maine. During their time in the Army Brent and Barb averaged one move every two years, with a home bought and sold nearly every time.

Brent retired from the Army as a Captain (Major Select) in the summer of 2005 and settled in Phippsburg where he currently resides with his wife Barbara and two children.

Brent is active in the community and volunteers at the Phippsburg Elementary School as a mentor. He spends his leisure time with his family clamming, fishing, and relaxing on the dock. He also helps out his friends throughout the summer as a stern-man on a lobster boat and a deck-hand tuna fishing commercially.
